Bitcoin in History: bitcoin.org and bitcoin-dot-org

Bitcoin.org was registered on August 18, 2008, and owned by Bitcoin’s first two developers, Satoshi Nakamoto and Martti Malmi. When Satoshi left the project, he gave ownership of the domain to additional people, separate from the Bitcoin developers, to spread responsibility and prevent any one person or group from easily gaining control over the Bitcoin project.

The code of Bitcoin.org is open source, emphasizing transparency and collaboration. While the co-owners retain final publication authority, day-to-day activities are conducted through the public pull request process and overseen by the site maintainer. Notably, on GitHub, the platform has witnessed over 6,200 commits from 370 contributors worldwide, showcasing a global and diverse engagement with the project.
