The reason people prefer BTC and ETH over alts is because these two coins have stood the test of time and are safer

I see posts and comments of people recommending investing in alts which usually faces some criticism and even though I don't think there's anything wrong with investing in alts, I do think understand why.

Obviously much of the market consists of projects that die within a very short time and the rest scams, which alone scare a lot of people away from Crypto, let alone alts.

The fact that Bitcoin and Ethereum have stood the test of time and proved themselves to be superior is the reason why people invest in these two and are very cautious of alts. And not to mention the fact that most of the alts do nothing different than these two, even though there are some that are great for fees and other things as such but which alone doesn't make them worth buying.

You wouldn't want to go ahead in a market of the sort and invest in a coin that has a 99% likelihood of failing. That's not why you're investing. And so you choose one of the two top coins.

Even when they have good fundamentals, they need the hype alongside it to not die and that comes from just pure luck.

It's understandable that most people choose one of two when investing.
