What happened to Bukele’s Bitcoin City and the Volcano Bond

What ever happened to El Salvador’s much hyped volcano bonds? It was initially delayed in March of 2022 after being announced in 2021, and still have yet to be issued. There was such an absurd amount of hype around this announcement and it now seems like Bukele is hoping people will just forget. He made an announcement somewhat recently about it possibly being tied to a mining facility, but it is very odd to all of a sudden pivot to this strategy. Especially after claiming he had a lot of commitments already. It seems like he’s just trying to buy time for something that he knows will never happen.

And it seems to be the same story with “Bitcoin City”. Another massive Bukele promise that has seen almost zero movement in two years.

Something tells me Bukele knew he could market these to his people to gain popularity without any actual path forward. And now he’s hoping people will just move on.
